Sales Assistant

​

Full-Time Position

We are currently looking for a friendly, organised, and customer-focused Sales Assistant to join our busy timber sales office.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with customer service and sales experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and building strong relationships with both trade and retail customers.

​

Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday: 8:00am – 5:00pm

  • One Saturday morning per month: 8:00am – 12:00pm

  • Saturday hours are paid at overtime rates (time and a half)

The Role

As a Sales Assistant, you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service and supporting the day-to-day operation of our sales office. You will communicate with customers by telephone, email, and in person, assisting with orders, enquiries, and delivery arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

​

Customer Sales & Order Processing

  • Taking timber orders over the phone from trade and retail customers.

  • Assisting walk-in customers at the sales office.

  • Processing customer orders and responding to enquiries via email.

  • Providing product information and advice to customers.

​​

Customer Service

  • Delivering a high standard of customer service at all times.

  • Handling customer enquiries efficiently and professionally.

  • Resolving customer issues and concerns in a positive and timely manner.

  • Building and maintaining strong customer relationships.

​​

Payments & Administration

  • Processing card payments over the phone.

  • Handling cash payments from customers visiting the office.

  • Maintaining accurate records and completing general administrative duties.

​​

Delivery Coordination

  • Scheduling and booking customer deliveries.

  • Liaising with colleagues to ensure deliveries are arranged efficiently.

​​

Systems Used

  • Sage 50 Accounts

  • Microsoft Excel

  • Microsoft Outlook

​​

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous customer service experience.

  • Previous sales experience.

  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

  • Good computer literacy and confidence using office software.

  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Experience within the timber, builders' merchant, or construction industry would be advantageous but is not essential, as training can be provided.
